Conform\u00e9ment \u00e0 son style de vie, il met en place un univers po\u00e9tique, plut\u00f4t sombre et d\u00e9licat, \u00e0 contre-courant du grunge qui envahit la plan\u00e8te et les ann\u00e9es quatre-vingt-dix. La reconnaissance vient avec son troisi\u00e8me album et sa rencontre avec Gus Van Sant pour lequel il \u00e9crira \u00ab Miss Misery \u00bb pour le film Good Will Hunting. Nomin\u00e9e aux oscars en 1998 face au mastodonte \u00ab My Heart Will Go On \u00bb interpr\u00e9t\u00e9 par C\u00e9line Dion pour Titanic, la chanson, et son interpr\u00e9tation lors de la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie, marquent les esprits et posent le jeune g\u00e9nie en \u00e9tendard du cool. Cette reconnaissance ne l\u2019emp\u00eachera pas de mettre fin \u00e0 ses jours, \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e2ge d\u00e9routant de 34 ans. Strange.
